Slow Down. Slow Breathing.
It's easy to get caught up in the moment. Stress creeps in slowly and steadily, until we accept it as part of life. Slowing down takes less than you think.
How to Slow Down
- Make your exhales twice as long as your inhales.
- Inhale for 2–3 seconds, exhale for 4–6. That's about 6–10 breaths a minute.
- Do it twice a day for 5 minutes.
- Do it on demand whenever the moment is getting ahead of you.
Practical
- Start at 2 in, 4 out. Don't force it.
- Build up to 3/6, then 4/8.
- Add a short pause between the inhale and the exhale.
- Slow the exhale with a sound — an 'f', then an 's'.
- Draw the belly in at the end of the exhale.
- For a variant, try box breathing — 4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold.
